Clubhouse is only a year old, but it’s already causing a stir among those looking for a new social media platform. As clubhouses are usually invite-only, the name of the app suggests exclusivity.
In the Clubhouse app, you can also create your own club.
This article covers the steps involved, as well as how the app itself works, how to host rooms and add topics, and how the invitation process works.
What Is the Clubhouse App, and How Does It Work?
To understand how to navigate the Clubhouse app and create clubs, let’s look at what the app represents and how it works. Thus, we will be able to gain a better understanding of how the app’s clubs and rooms work.
Users can listen to other people’s conversations on Clubhouse, which is an audio-based chat application. If you raise your hand, the host of the room where the conversation is taking place can include you as well. In most cases, people are there to hear conversations they wouldn’t otherwise hear.
You shouldn’t confuse this concept with eavesdropping, since everyone on Clubhouse wants to be heard. The Clubhouse is popular because many renowned people and even celebrities frequent it.
You can listen to your favorite celebrities have a long-form conversation with listeners on Clubhouse, unlike Twitter. The format is similar to a podcast or Zoom call, but with hundreds or thousands of participants.
Clubhouse Is (For Now) Invite-Only
The Clubhouse official blog states that the app was not designed to be exclusive. As a matter of fact, the company intends to make it accessible to everyone. It sounds contradictory, however, since users can only be invited to join the app.
However, this is the business model they have chosen. Eventually, everyone will be able to use the app if the slower roll-out is successful. As of right now, Clubhouse is still in beta, and it is unclear when it will be released to the general public.
Before taking that step, Clubhouse representatives say they want to work on establishing more detailed community guidelines, improving safety features in the app, and encouraging inclusion.
How Does Anyone Join Clubhouse?
Let’s leave aside the discussion of Clubhouse’s exclusivity. How does someone get in? To join Clubhouse, you must be invited by an existing member.
The member was also able to join the app by invitation only. The right to invite two other users is given to every new user.
Membership will increase as they use the app regularly. Additionally, there is an option that does not require an invitation, but is probably more challenging.
Follow Clubhouse hashtags or post about Clubhouse on other social media platforms. If you manage to catch the attention of existing Clubhouse users, you might get an invite.
How to Create a Club in Clubhouse on iPhone
The Clubhouse app is available in the App Store for iPhone users. The goal of having your own club within the app will likely become your goal if you are invited to join Clubhouse.
In a club, users can have more intimate conversations with the community of their choice. To retain your Clubhouse club, you must host recurring meetups with your followers.
A club is easier said than done – in Clubhouse, it’s a slow, uncertain process. Currently, the app considers clubs to be an experimental feature, and only manually approved clubs are allowed.
Additionally, even if a user is granted permission to create clubs, they can only have one. The app allows users to request clubs and wait for the app’s response. Here’s how it works:
- Go to the main feed in the Clubhouse app on your iPhone.
- In the top right corner of the screen, tap your profile photo.
- In the top right corner, tap the gear icon. The app settings are accessed.
- Tap the “FAQ/Contact Us” option. The website will redirect you to the “Clubhouse Knowledge Center”.
- In the “Frequently Asked Questions” section, select the “How do I start a club?“ choice.
- Click on the “You can find the club request form here” link at the bottom of the page.
- Fill out the application by following all the prompts.
It will be necessary for you to give your club a name and decide what category it belongs to. A short description of the club (200 characters) will also be required. As a final step, please provide your username and a date and time for your potential regular meetups.
How to Create a Club in Clubhouse on Android Device
Android users cannot download and use the Clubhouse app. In any case, not yet. Clubhouse is currently only available for iPhones. iPad users can download the app, but the interface is optimized for iPhones only.
There are more Android users than iPhone users worldwide, so there is a huge market for the Clubhouse app. Roll-out tempo and intention to reach everyone have been made clear.
Although we don’t know when the Clubhouse app will be available on Play Store, it’s safe to assume that it will at some point. The app does not have a web version either.
I’ve Created a Club, What’s Next?
What if you were active on the Clubhouse app, hosted regular meetups, followed all the guidelines, and had your own club?
Among the many categories your club can belong to are sports, entertainment, languages, technology, places, etc. It is your responsibility to host interesting meetups on a specific topic in the hopes of encouraging other users to join the conversation.
If you want to find your club in the app, just go to your Clubhouse profile, and you’ll see the “Members of” option. There will be the name and badge of your club. You’ll be redirected to your club once you tap the badge.
You can also add a logo or photo for your club. Your club’s name or description can be changed at any time by contacting Clubhouse directly. The club’s name is limited to 25 characters, and the description is limited to 150 characters.
Reaching for the Clubhouse Admin Title
Creating your own club in Clubhouse seems overly complicated for now. However, that doesn’t have to be the case. Celebrities and other famous people might get all the perks right away.
As long as you maintain a steady social media presence and follow the app’s community guidelines, someone will eventually invite you.
Clubhouse does not have an automated approval feature yet, so you never really know who will get a club and who won’t.
What will your Clubhouse club be about? Comment below and let us know what you think.
Clubhouse allows you to ban users from your club by blocking them. The only thing you need to do is visit that person’s profile page and select three vertical dots in the upper right corner. Select “Block” from the pop-up menu.
The user will not be able to enter your club or any room where you are speaking. Clubhouse will also alert you to the rooms where they are speaking. Alternatively, you can select the “Report an incident” option to report a user for breaking community guidelines.
If you become the club admin, you can invite others to join the conversation. You can invite anyone from Clubhouse who is on your contact list by searching your contacts. Alternatively, you can invite someone who follows you.
Finally, you can share a secret invite link with people whose phone numbers you don’t have. If your club is successful and active, you will receive a number of invites.
You’re only required to host as many meetups as you can, and as the number of invites grows, you’ll receive notifications in-app. In addition, if you’re an admin, you can assign a co-admin to take over if necessary.
